What is Active Release Technique (ART)?

Active Release Technique (ART) is a state-of-the-art, movement-based massage technique that focuses on relieving pain and dysfunction caused by overused or injured muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, and nerves. Unlike traditional massage, ART is designed to treat and resolve underlying issues rather than simply providing relaxation.

Conditions commonly treated with ART include:

  • Headaches
  • Back pain
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Shin splints
  • Shoulder pain
  • Sciatica
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Knee problems
  • Tennis elbow

How Does ART Work?

When muscles and soft tissues are overused, they can become compromised due to:

  • Acute injuries (pulls, tears, or collisions).
  • Micro-trauma (accumulation of small tears from repetitive motion).
  • Hypoxia (lack of oxygen to tissues).

These issues lead to the formation of scar tissue, which binds and restricts the movement of affected tissues. This can result in:

  • Shortened and weakened muscles.
  • Pain and reduced range of motion.
  • Trapped nerves, causing tingling, numbness, or weakness.

ART works by breaking down this scar tissue, restoring normal function and mobility.
